Avro Lancaster's flew from many famous Royal Air Force Stations situated throughout Lincolnshire during the second world war. The air/ground tour will view a variety of them as well as any requested station that may be associated with family members. The Stations that may be visited include RAF BARDNEY The station became operational in April 1943 and was the home of 9 Squadron until the war ended. Along with 617 Sqn (The Dambusters), 9 Sqn played its part in the raid on the German battleship `Tirpitz` during September 1944. After189 Sqn moved to Bardney, both squadrons remained there until after cessation of hostilities in 1945.During the 1950`s, Bardney was an operational base for Thor intercontinental ballistic nuclear missiles. The station was decommissioned in . RAF BINBROOK. Lancasters arrived at RAF Binbrook during 1943 alkthough the station had been operational since June 1940. Various bomber types had flown from there including Fairey Battles and Barnes Wallis` design, the Wellington. Lancasters from RAF Binbrook took part in raids on Berlin, The Ruhr and on Hitler`s mountain retreat at Berchtesgaden. After the war and during the subsequent jet age, Binbrook was the home for Javelin, Canberra and finally the English Electric Lightning. There is still much to see there.
